After nearly a decade of anticipation, EA Sports College Football is due to bring NCAA action back to video games, albeit by a different name. NCAA Football 14 was the last time we saw college football on consoles, but 2024 has some relief on the horizon.
With an EA Sports College Football release date looming in '24, it's time to start looking ahead to what the game will actually be. So here's everything you need to know about EA Sports College Football.
Updated January 9, 2024: Despite rumors of an announcement, there was no EA Sports College Football 24 reveal at the College Football Championship Game. According to one report, there was never a formal plan to reveal anything at the event.
After years of disputes over licensing and player compensation, the dust seems to be settling as the game which could be dubbed EA Sports College Football 24 draws near. Originally announced by EA Sports in early 2021, this revamped version of the franchise that started as Bill Walsh College Football in 1993 will be dropping their past NCAA branding and kicking off a new era.
In the buildup, they've consistently reiterated that the EA Sports College Football release date is set for Summer 2024. An exact date hasn't been confirmed as of yet, but the franchise often targeted July for annual releases in the past.
While that vague release window seemed ambitious early on, an EA Sports spokesperson confirmed as recently as late November 2023 that they "look forward to delivering EA Sports College Football in Summer 2024."
As for the actual gameplay and game modes, very few details have been revealed. However, we do know that Dynasty Mode and Road to Glory were confirmed early on and should anchor the franchise reboot.
One of the biggest questions about a potential EA Sports College Football 24 release is how player likenesses and names will be handled. In the past, NCAA Football games omitted player likenesses and names entirely due to the rules of that era, but times have changed and players are now allowed to monetize their name and likeness while still in college.
Early reports indicated that EA Sports had developed a large cash pool for athletes with the offer of paying out $500 per player if they choose to be included in the title. That led to a lawsuit over the inability of players to negotiate that fee, but it has since been settled.
While we don't know exactly which players will choose to find their way into the game, the option is there now. We should actually see named players with their likeness included in EA Sports College Football. We've got more details here on all the teams expected to be in EA Sports College Football 24.
